Our Lovestory
almost a decade later and it's just the beginningIt all started in 2015. We were 15 years old and Dams had just recently joined the school choir. I was in the row just in front, and chats soon began to buzz. Ever so subtly, a sweet friendship was beginning to blossom.
Grade 11 is where things really took off. A few happy coincidences (God’s plan in action) lead to us dancing together in the school revue competition (and each destination it took us to) and being on the prefect camp together… words don’t seem to do it justice, but we truly became inseparable BESTIES!
At the beginning of grade 12, we went on the grade 8 camp together and of course, Dams convinced Izak to swop with him so we could have a group of “graad aggies” together. Again, wherever Dams was, you could be sure to find me there too. Shortly after that we signed up to be “geesvang” leaders together. It is during these days that our secret code #VWLW came to be.
Looking back, we were fiercely in love by this point … only we had no idea! I mean it’s perfectly normal for “just friends” to talk over the phone (sometimes for hours) each night, right?
The most special “aha” moment came on 4 March 2017, and by 3 April 2017 it was official. ❤
We have had the privilege of growing up together. We finished matric together, endured Isabel’s exchange to Denmark, had the excitement of being young students in Pretoria, rotated between our parents’ houses for more than a year during Covid, had another 2 years of long distance when Dams moved to Cape Town … it’s been a journey.
On the 18th of December 2024 Dams got down on one knee, nearly giving me a heart attack, and now here we are, ready to start this next chapter, with all our loved ones by our side.
